Lonehill football star gets opportunity to impress in Belgium
The young and talented Lonehill football player has had the opportunity to travel to several countries.
Neo Rapoo, a talented 16-year-old Lonehill football sensation, has been given the opportunity to attend trials in Belgium over the next two months.
“I’m very excited, I don’t know what to expect. I know that the players who are there are very good so I’m going to give it my all and play with my heart,” he said.
Neo plays for the SuperSport United FC U23 team which competes in the DStv Diski Challenge and is the youngest in the team.
“I started playing when I was 10 years old in Diepsloot for Cobra United while I was going to school here in Witkoppen. Then the SuperSport soccer schools came and they selected me out of the whole school and took me to the academy, and that’s when I started to play for SuperSport,” said Neo.
He is currently home-schooled and said it had been a struggle to balance his schoolwork and his football practices. He added that most of the time he has to cut out football so that he could focus on his schoolwork. “I want to make it pro in football, but I’m also going to keep studying because school is also important.”
Violet Rapoo, Neo’s mother said, “Neo is a young talented boy and since from an early age you could see that he loves football. I used to shout at him because he used to come back home late because he was out playing football.” She added that she thought Neo would have a good career in football because he was very passionate and hard-working.
The Lonehill talent has had the opportunity to travel to multiple countries such as Spain, France and Germany. “Germany was my favourite country to visit because I went there with the South African U14 national team.” He added that travelling to various countries and meeting his idols had been part of the most exciting part about playing football.
