Diepsloot police arrested five male suspects between the ages of 26 and 35 in Lanseria after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and police uniform on May 29.
Police were conducting patrol duties when they received information from crime intelligence regarding five suspects driving a blue sedan who were planning to commit a robbery in Lanseria, according to Captain Tinyiko Mathebula.
“A search for the said vehicle ensued and the police spotted a vehicle matching the description as provided by crime intelligence parked at a filling station in Lanseria, with five occupants inside.
“The police swiftly pounced on the suspects and conducted a search which allegedly led to a recovery of a firearm [shotgun] and police uniform. All five suspects allegedly failed to produce a licence for possessing a firearm,” he said.
The suspects were arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of police uniform. All suspects were due to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 31.
