Edu Inc archers win gold in national championships
After the tournament nationals, Edu Inc archers James Strauss and Myles Haupt are now Double Day SA Record holders in both the Junior and Cub male divisions respectively.
Two Edu Inc learners took home gold in a national archery competition in Tshwane from May 14 to 15.
James Strauss and Myles Haupt took part in the South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association Nationals.
James also achieved a South African national record in the Double Day Male Cub male division and was awarded his national colours for archery based on scores from earlier competitions. He attained a personal best of 255 on May 14 and nearly matched his scores on Sunday with a two-day total of 508. In the process, he scored 18 bullseyes.
Myles achieved the Double Day Male Junior South African national record last year. With these scores, the learners’ coach, Noel Robinson now trains the Double Day SA Record holders in both the Cub and Junior male divisions.
Edu Inc executive head Gershom Aitchison expressed pride in the two young archers on behalf of the school’s community as they have been witness to the dedication, skill and focus both learners have when practising at the school’s archery range.
“Archery could be viewed as an obscure sport and inaccessible to many children. However, it has many benefits in imparting valuable life skills, such as mental and physical discipline.
“Edu Inc created a range so that our students could explore and pursue the sport, as Myles and James have so successfully done. We are very proud of them indeed,” he said.
He added that the school’s philosophy was to think, learn and succeed differently and that the school was happy to encourage the passion and sporting prowess of Myles and James.
