Dainfern College head girl gets highest honour

Head girl of Dainfern College, Kate Weir achieved a number of accolades and was awarded for her achievements at a colours assembly.

On May 12, Dainfern College awarded a red blazer to the school’s head girl Kate Weir which is the highest award at the school’s colours assembly.

The red blazer celebrates the achievements of those exceptional learners who have achieved a minimum of full colours in at least three of the pillars of a Dainfern College education being academics, cultural, sports, service and leadership.
Weir was awarded her red blazer for achieving full colours in tennis and performing arts, honours for academics and individual music, national colours for dance, cultural honours, and prestige awards for academics, individual music, music ensemble, hockey and tennis.

A white scroll extracurricular award can replace sport or culture provided the learner has represented the school at first team level and has achieved at least a team scroll in this area.
“The countless hours of commitment and the high level of skills required to achieve across these disciplines show that recipients of the red blazer are genuine all-rounders at the highest level, rather than specialists in one field,” said communications manager at the school Ashley van Aswegen.

Learners also need to show evidence of their commitment to Dainfern College over a period of time and thus need to have achieved prestige awards in at least two of these areas.
In addition, learners will only be considered for the award if their conduct is exemplary and embodies the values of the college, and they have completed the required outreach hours that total 10 hours per year.
