Man arrested in Diepsloot thanks to police vigilance

The 35-year-old man was arrested and remanded in custody after appearing in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 10.

A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested by the West Rand K9 Unit in Diepsloot Ext 2 on May 8 in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The members were conducting crime prevention duties when they spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle driving along Ukuxola Street in Ext 2.
Spokesperson of the Diepsloot Police Station Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said when the vehicle was pulled over, a search was conducted and a firearm was allegedly found hidden under the driver’s seat.

“When asked to whom the firearm belongs, the suspect allegedly said it is his and that he uses it to protect himself while driving at night. He was then asked to produce a licence for possessing a firearm and failed to do so.”
The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 10 and was remanded in custody.
