Beaulieu Hockey teams take gold in Kimberley Easter tournament

Winning their fourth Easter hockey tournament and first in Kimberley, Beaulieu Hockey Academy are looking for a positive start in the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association outdoor league.

Between April 15 and 17, Beaulieu Hockey Academy A and B men’s teams took part in an Easter hockey tournament in Kimberley where they won gold.
The teams won their respective sections in the KC March Easter Tournament.

They were also given a gift from the tournament organisers William Pescod Hockey Club, in memory of Beaulieu coach Allistar Fredericks who passed away last year June.
Captain of the A side Jesse Salo said as the tournament progressed, the team just went from strength to strength.
“We performed quite well throughout. Our build-up wasn’t that great, but we did have some prep before the tournament. We just looked at working on our combinations and tactics before our first match.

“In the tournament, our toughest opponents were definitely Langa Hockey Club in the semi-final. They really had the basics down and gave us a run for our money. Thankfully, we came out on top.”
The A side faced Parkside in the final on April 17 and won 4–0 to win the tournament for a fourth time.

Salo said he was confident that the start of the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association outdoor league would continue on a good note.
“We’ve seen that we have a really good squad of guys to be able to pick our strongest 15 from. Looking to the season, winning the tournament has starting things on a good note and also we have bonded with each other.

“We have an understanding as to how each of us play, so the tournament was a great pre-season series for the outdoor league. The main objective we have is to win the Southern Gauteng Association league, but we know it won’t be easy.”
At the award ceremony, the following awards were given to four Beaulieu players who were recognised for their efforts throughout the weekend:

  • Men’s A section player of the tournament: Jamie Seale
  • Men’s A section top goal scorer: Julian Hykes
  • Men’s B section player of the tournament: Tshedza Rasalanavho
  • Men’s B section top goal scorer: Keanan Wax.

The first match for Beaulieu in the league is against Shumbas on April 24.
