Hockey players receive new kit and bag sponsors

Thanks to three sponsors in the community, Fourways High School’s first team hockey players were gifted new back and playing kit to take them through the winter sports season.

Fourways High School first team hockey boys and girls received new kit at the start of the winter sports season on April 11 thanks to three new sponsors.
The kit included playing strip, stick bags and backpacks donated by Armormax, BMW Fourways and 123mds.

Armormax said it was their first time getting involved in the sponsorship of the school. Managing director Grant Anderson said someone he worked with had a son in the team and told him about the school’s hockey team.
“They are an awesome team. We jumped in as the opportunity [arose] and it is awesome to be involved.
“We are hoping the teams have a great year this year, and we will see where things go,” he told Fourways Review.

Teacher in charge of hockey at the school Tebogo Moepye said, “We all realise there are a lot of expenses when it comes to school sports… It’s very nice that the community at large is always willing to engage and support us.

“It also means our school is still seen in a good light and that our sport is still representing us and how we’d like to be seen in public.”
The school recently played in a derby day for the first time in three years against Northcliff High School in hockey, rugby and netball.
Moepye added that the learners were excited to get back on the sports field without any Covid-19 related interruptions.

“It’s exciting to have derby days and matches again, we do have another seven or eight days lined up. It’s always big days for the learners to come and watch their first teams on a Saturday afternoon, sometimes even on a Friday, and to develop a little bit of pride in their teams and to inspire the younger ones to wear the first team kit.”
