Diepsloot artist aspiring to make a change with paintings

A local artist is hoping to take his art and painting to the next level.

A Diepsloot artist is ready to take his art to the next level.

Lloyd Moyo, who creates pieces for commission, began his craft in realism art during his high school years after he gained an interest in photography and editing. The love deepened after being taken under the wing of freelance photographer and editor, Tambudzai Ndlovu.

Moyo explained his love of art started at an even younger age due to his surroundings. “Having grown up next to the fast-paced and touristic environment and national park of Hwange, my love of the outdoors grew tremendously. Throughout my life, I have always been fascinated by images and how the world is presented through the eyes of others,” he said.

He moved to Johannesburg from Cape Town in 2019 and had reference photos after being a photographer for several wildlife companies in Zimbabwe.

“I mainly focus on the value of women and mothers, as I believe women carry all the burden of the earth. I believe that a mother plays multiple roles in a child’s development, as she is a teacher in every aspect of a child’s developmental growth-social, emotional, cognitive and physical.”

He paints the subject out of context to ‘let people see the world in a different positive perspective’. He believes every time he handles a brush, a message has to be sent to the community through his painting. “My drive for the context I paint comes from my personal life that I experienced all these past years. When I was a child, I was raised by my grandmother in the outskirts of Victoria Falls, and then later joined my mother in Victoria Falls.”

Moyo has drawn inspiration from a number of other artists from both Zimbabwe and South Africa. These include Munyaradzi Napoleon Nhananga, Larry Norton, Ennock Mlangen and Nelson Makamo.

Looking to the future, Moyo said hopes to make a change with artwork and paintings, and exhibit it at more art galleries. He previously exhibited his artwork in Randburg’s Touch of Genius.
