Fourways High School learners embark on an initiative to help children suffering from cancer

Simra said she hopes that more young people will join them to help those in needs.

A Fourways-based young humanitarian Simra Salman Ilyas and her schoolmates hosted a ‘cupcakes of hope’ initiative to raise funds for children living with cancer.

Simra and her schoolmates of Fourways High School managed to raise R8 000 that will be donated to a non-profit organisation that helps people living with cancer.

Simra said, “Our goal was to get young people involved and understand how important it is to familiarise [themselves] with selfless behaviour at such a young age. This initiative helps fund children that are suffering from cancer in hospitals. The idea actually came from an initiative that is already established called ‘cupcakes of hope’ where we host annual sales at various malls to raise money for cancer patients.”

Simra said she hoped that the initiative would spread to all schools in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

“My wish is to have a combined northern suburbs schools ‘cupcake of hope’ event to help raise much-needed funds for this dreadful disease.”
