Community pays respects to late NPO founder

The Wot-If? Trust, who worked with the Kea Foundation, invited friends and family of the late founder, Tracy Bogopa, to pay their respects and plant a tree in her honour.

The Diepsloot community honoured the founder of an NPO with a memorial service and tree-planting ceremony on March 25 at the Father Louis Blondel Centre.

Tracy Bogopa founded the Kea Foundation with her family and had donated a number of items to community members in Diepsloot as well as her home community in Limpopo. Bogopa passed away on February 27 and was buried in her hometown in Limpopo.

Founder and Trustee at Wot-If? Trust Gail Styger said her organisation worked closely with Bogopa’s foundation and was key in organising the memorial service for the late founder.
“Wot-if? has created an ‘Orchard of Remembrance’ in the grounds in Ext 10 in Diepsloot that they rent from the Catholic Church. A tree is a wonderful way to remember someone who has passed away. The fruit will be eaten by generations to come so that Tracy’s legacy will not be forgotten,” said Styger.

Father Evantus Kene from the Diepsloot Sacred Heart Catholic Church presided over the memorial and blessed the tree.
“The Kea Foundation is a community-based organisation operating in Diepsloot but servicing many communities. They focus on people in dire need of food and other support items. Tracy will be remembered for her tireless campaigning for the less fortunate, her huge heart and her courageous spirit,” concluded Styger.
