The young chess player's father said they were proud of their daughter who will be representing the country on a global stage.

An 11-year-old chess player and philanthropist, Kajol Naidoo, is heading to Greece to represent South Africa at the World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championship on April 25.

The winner of the 2021 Amayanga Yanga Athlete of the Year award at the Gauteng Sports Awards said she was excited to represent her country at an international level. “I am going to do my best to represent my country at the World Blitz and Rapid Chess Championship.”

The father of a Grade 5 learner at Radford House, Gerard Naidoo, said they were proud of their daughter who will be representing the country on a global stage.

“This past week Kajol finished the SA Junior Chess Closed Championship 2022 by winning nine of 11 games which qualified her for the Commonwealth Games and African Youth Chess Championships later this year as part of team SA,” Gerard said.

Gerard added that Kajol played the most rated chess games in 2021 and qualified for the closed championship as the highest-rated player in her category. “As parents, we are very proud and she is so grateful and excited to again travel internationally to represent South Africa.”
