PAUSHOF– Ward 93 councillor said cancer is often seen as a taboo subject whispered around the patient and their families as if mentioning the word about it would break them.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy participated in the 2022 Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon recently held at Rivonia Crossing Shopping Centre in Paulshof.

Cansa Shavathon is an annual fundraising event held at different shopping centres across the country to support cancer survivors.

Participants choose between colouring their hair or pay a bailout fee to raise funds in support of the initiative.

Reddy said cancer was often seen as a taboo subject. “We need to break down the barriers and stigma surrounding the disease and instead raise awareness about it. Cancer is a subject that is very close to my heart as I’ve lost family members to it.
“I coloured my hair to show support and care to those directly and indirectly affected by the disease. It’s a small gesture that does make a difference.”
