SA Guide-Dogs to host telethon fundraiser

PAULSHOF – The association hopes to raise R1 million with its first-ever telethon.

Locals are urged to make a phone call and donate to make a difference.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is hosting its first-ever telethon fundraising campaign on March 23 with the hopes of raising R1 million.

The non-profit organisation provides dogs for people that are visually impaired, physically disabled and for people with autism and does not receive funding from the government. According to Jackie Quail, the regional marketing manager, the association relies on donations and fundraisers to stay open.

This telethon will help cover the shortfall that occurred during the Covid-19 restrictions.

Quail urges the public to pledge their donation on March 23 and make the final payment before March 31. The dedicated phone lines, which can be reached on 010 109 7760, will be open from 07:00–16:00.

On the day of the telethon, Nadia Sands, the head of marketing at the association, will be a guest on Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels on Breakfast with Martin Bester to discuss the association’s work. This will also kick off the telethon, while encouraging people to donate nationwide.

All donations will make a difference:

  • R100 can help buy educational and sensory toys for the puppies
  • R250 can go towards buying a blanket or a collar for a puppy
  • R500 can contribute towards buying a cane or a harness
  • R1 000 can help with the training for an assistance dog or orientation and mobility client.

All money raised will go towards the training of the dogs.
