The school hosted a 5km colour run on March 11 with almost 500 people ready to throw fistfuls of coloured powder at one another. The run was hosted as a means to raise funds for the Vuleka Outreach Programme.
Participants were able to contribute to the charity by donating a pair of shoes in support of National Shoe the Nation Day on March 15.
Executive head at the school Graham Bennetts and head of the early learning school and junior primary Nicola Crooks were incredibly grateful for the turnout of participants at the event.
“We were expecting around 250 people but we’ve just smashed 500. It has gone way beyond what we were expecting. It definitely shows a thirst people have for events and what people can do now after Covid,” Bennetts said.

“This event is definitely the first of many. We are desperate to get our community back together again and create a vibe. We hosted an online quiz night last year that was a success but it is nothing like the face-to-face interactions,” Crooks added.
Bennetts mentioned that the school has continued to get involved with a number of initiatives in community service, such as the school planting and maintaining vegetable patches. The food once grown will be used to make soup for the community. All events the schools take part in makes a contribution towards a charity.

Two community members at the colour run, Lunga Mlandy and Sbu Mthembu, agreed that the afternoon was filled with lots of energy and fun for both young and old. “It was a fun event to attend and also an opportunity to be outside, especially since Covid,” said Mlandy.
