Community runs for Hospice Wits
KYALAMI – The purpose of the run at Kyalami Corner was to raise funds for well-known charity organisation Hospice Wits.
Community members put on their running shoes to take a 5km run around Kyalami Corner Shopping Centre on March 12.
The centre partnered with Run/Walk for Life Centurion and saw a number of participants participate in the Run to the Shops event to raise funds for the Hospice Wits. The non-profit organisation assists a number of patients who are terminally ill. It also provides counselling on grief and loss and coming to terms with difficult news.
While the run was not centred on who could finish first, Future Bafana was the first of the group who finished the race in a time just over 20 minutes.
“I really enjoyed the race. I follow the Run/Walk for Life Facebook page and that’s how I came across this race. I enjoy running and I used to participate in such races,” he said.
Kgaugelo Makgati was another participant in the race who had a pleasant morning. “This was my first Run/Walk for Life race and I had fun and would do it again, ”she said.
The run is an annual event, and was postponed to this year due to the country being in a height of Covid-19 restrictions last year.
