Tennis championship serves up great matches

PAULSHOF – The annual tennis championship at the Rivonia Recreation Club are seeing more participants get tennis mad, with more fixtures still to go.

For the next month, the annual tennis championship at Rivonia Recreation Club in Paulshof will be serving some interesting tennis action.

The championship began on a quiet note on January 29 and 30, with players scoring valuable points to take with them to the next few rounds.

Club manager Matthew Bayley said the first weekend did not see too much action, but attendance and matches should soon pick up. “We thankfully were not affected too much by the third wave or the Omicron variant. The tournament has just started, so things are still picking up. We’ll see what happens in the next few weekends,” he said.

Singles matches take place on the Saturday, and doubles matches on the Sunday for players who are part of the club.

Doubles teams of various playing levels took to the court again on February 6. Team Andrea Lodolo and Carolyn Holden took on team Sayali Bedeker and Bettie Lodolo in a social match, where the former were the winners of the morning. They won their set 5–1 thanks to Lodolo’s impressive skill.

The championship is are set to continue on February 12 and 13.
