FOURWAYS – The pass rate of Fourways High School was just under 98%, but principal Andrew Holliday commended the of the results from the grade, with the school's best ever bachelor pass rate.
The Class of 2021 matrics of Fourways High School collected their final results from the school on January 21.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement as learners reconnected with friends from the past year.
Principal of the school, Andrew Holliday commended the efforts of the learners over the past two years which had been a tough time. He said the matrics had achieved more than an 88% bachelor’s degree pass rate which was the highest they have ever had.
“We’re very proud. It’s well publicised how difficult the last two years have been for them, but they have done better than we thought they would have.
“We’ve got many subjects where the pass rate was 100%. I’m proud of the staff, learners and also the primary schools for building up these learners,”
Dux Scholar of the school, Mitchell Neilson expressed relief and pride in his results and was now looking to push even further in university.
“This has been my goal since Grade 7. Now that I have achieved it, I can push forward with the rest of my life. All the nerves have disappeared, and now it’s just adrenaline.
“Keeping up with matric during the pandemic was very limiting. I played first team hockey and did a lot of extra-murals for the school. To be limited by that and only have academics, there was little to no break times. What it did do for me was focus my attention more on my academics and it helped me with my goals,” he said.
He added he would study a Bachelor of Science in computer sciences and was aiming to be one of the top students. Some words of encouragement he had for the current Grade 12 class were to work hard even when things became difficult.
“Matric can be easy if you put the grind in. It’s a lot to take in in the beginning and it’s going to be a kick start to the year. If you take a step back, accept what’s difficult, move forward and put the hard work in, and you’ll be fine,” he concluded.
