St Peter’s Grade 12s ready for the outside world

SUNNINGHILL – The school celebrated the results of the Class of 2021 with coldrinks, boerewors rolls and memories of the last five years.

The wet and grey weather did not dampen the spirits of the St Peter’s College matric Class of 2021 who collected their results on January 19.

The school once again celebrated their learners who achieved a 100% pass rate while completing two tough years of high school during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Matriculant Andiswa Ngobese said she felt overwhelmingly proud of her achieved marks and had goals to study occupational therapy and get her postgraduate in Norway.

“My marks exceeded my expectations. The night before the results I was stressed because I wondered if I had put in the work to attain what I wanted to. I got one distinction, but I was so close to getting two.
“Honestly, doing Grade 12 during a pandemic was quite disgusting. The year is tough itself, and dealing with mental health, academics and social life does take a toll on a learner,” she said.

Head girl Justeen Hallowes attained seven distinctions with hopes to go to Stellenbosch University to study environmental or human rights law.
She made mention of her speech during last year’s valedictory service of the closeness felt within the grade, and how important it was for them to succeed.

“The main thing is to lean on the people you have around you. As a grade, we really did work together. Us, as the prefect body, and as head girl, we worked really well as a team. I don’t think we would have gone through the year if it wasn’t for each other.

“I would advise the current Grade 12s to lean on each other and not to be afraid to ask for help. At the end of the day, give it your best all the time.”

Headmaster at the school Rui Morais gave kudos to the matriculants for their results achieved.
“There is huge excitement in the air, and we are incredibly proud of the Class of 2021. There are a number of challenges we’ve had over the last two years, but they have come through with flying colours.
“Something like this is not something we wanted to go through, but the experience has put them in good stead to face the experience of the outside world,” he said.
