More than 200 suspects arrested for various crimes in Diepsloot during festive season

DIEPSLOOT– Mathebula said the operations were aimed at ensuring safety in the area during festive season and beyond.


The South African Police Service arrested more than 200 suspects in various operations during the festive season in Diepsloot.

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson Tinyiko Mathebula said all the arrested suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

“Efforts to clamp down on crime yielded good fruits during the festive season as Diepsloot police secured over 200 arrests for various crimes. Suspects were arrested for offences ranging from murder, rape, possession of unlicensed firearm, assault common under domestic violence, assault GBH and others,” he said.

“The police also managed to recover four unlicensed firearms during the operations held over the festive period. Curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms in this community remains the station’s primary objective, which will go a long way in tackling violent crimes.

“Police maintained high visibility in malls and crime hotspots to ensure that the community celebrated the festive season in a safe and secure environment. Local liquor outlets were frequented to ensure that there was maximum compliance to liquor legislation and the Disaster Management Act.”

He added that the Acting Station Commander, Colonel Matome Mohale appreciated the collaboration and partnership of the police with the community in the fight against crime.
