Douglasdale Police Station partners with a local non-profit organisation to fight crime

FOURWAYS– Tshetlhane said partnership with community based organisations that work with young people can help in a fight against crime in the area.

Douglasdale Police Station has partnered with Fourways-based non-profit organisation, Daily Bread to establish a Youth Crime Prevention Desk in an effort to fight crime in the area.

Daily Bread feeds thousands of people weekly and provides skills development to youngsters from surrounding informal settlements in areas such as Alexandra, Diepsloot and Msawawa.

Founder and chairperson of Daily Bread, Charmaine McGinley said the initiative would strengthen the existing working relationship between her organisation and the police.

“Daily Bread is always open to work with law enforcement agencies in the area. We have a good working relationship with the local police station that dates back to 2008. We hope that this partnership will yield good fruit in the fight against crime.”

Douglasdale Police Station spokesperson, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said partnerships with community-based organisations that worked with young people could help in the fight against crime in the area.

“Police alone cannot fight crime without the involvement of community members, especially young people. Douglasdale Police Station has embarked on a campaign to recruit young volunteers between the ages of 18 to 35 who will serve in the youth desk office.
“We want young people to be involved in the fight against crime. Daily Bread is one of those local organisations that we’ve partnered with to fight crime in the Douglasdale vicinity,” Tshetlhane said.

Tshetlhane urged young people who wanted to be volunteers, to visit the station and ask for the youth desk coordinator, Sergeant Nicolas Mokwena.
