Domestic workers equipped with safety and security knowledge

NORSCOT – A number of security and medical companies spoke to domestic workers in the area on tips for different methods on keeping safe when in compromising situations.


Domestic workers and community members were subject to a wealth of information for their safety by a number of frontline workers in Norscot on October 6.

Sector 4 of Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) were present alongside police, Fire Ops fire station, 24/7 Security and Netcare911.

Spokesperson for Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said there is a high importance in having forums like this, especially since it is almost the holiday season.

“Domestic workers are the ones who are left at home when the owners of the houses are not there. So whatever crime might happen inside the residential area, they will be the first to be the victims or receive anyone who will be coming inside the houses.

“It is important that they know about the safety methods they can use in case they are approached in the yard, the house or buying groceries.”

Captain Kid Lepheana and Sergeant Nicholus Mokwena spoke on how to keep safe during robberies, and what to do to contact police safely when in an abusive relationship, respectively.

She said the next forum is set to take place in the next quarter as to accommodate everyone living in the four sectors of Douglasdale.
