Local community members spill their creative juices for a good cause
DAINFERN – A first-ever painting day hosted by Husky Rescue South Africa saw huskies and king protea flowers painted in a variety of colourful ways.
Community members were encouraged to spill their creative juices at a painting day hosted by a Chartwell-based non-profit organisation on September 18.
Husky Rescue South Africa, as a means to fundraise for the organisation, hosted their first painting day. Huskies or king protea flowers could be painted while enjoying pizza and drinks.
There were a number of items on sale, as well as wrapped mystery items and raffle tickets for a freshly baked and colourful lemon cake.
Gilli Read, who is in charge of fundraising at the rescue centre, offered advice and assistance to everyone painting on how to get the colours of huskies to pop.
She said the day was a success from a fundraising point of view.
The organisation has a number of fundraising events including a potjie competition and a virtual Mandela Day event. “This year has been difficult for organising events and this painting day was initially planned for earlier but with the latest restrictions, we were forced to move it. We were thrilled with the good turnout for our Husky Rescue Painting Day.”
She added, “Sadly two people were forced to cancel on the day but we still had 21, including the teacher. We raised a nice amount of money and I firmly believe that if people feel they get something in return, then they enjoy supporting us.”
Read said she was hopeful to have another event such as this one soon.
