HeronBridge College learners donate food and clothes for those in need

FOURWAYS – The aim of the shop is to help provide support to community and on-site staff members in need.

As part of a Mandela Day celebration this year, HeronBridge College learners and staff members donated food and clothing items to the Bridge of Hope Community Shop to help the needy and less privileged.

The school’s marketing coordinator, Candice Gibson said, “The Bridge of Hope Community Shop is our heart-led outreach initiative that provides ongoing support to the HeronBridge College community and on-site staff members. Even while we are off-site, the shop remains open for support staff who need items to help bridge the gap, be that food, clothing, or even toys for their kids.”

Gibson added that at a time where it was quite challenging to visit the surrounding communities, they wanted to create something that allowed them to reach out and support the community in a different way.

“Every year on July 18, our country supports Mandela Day. For 67 minutes, the people of our country are asked to put others before themselves, and to do a good deed to help another in honour of Madiba. With all that is going on at the moment, these acts of kindness are very much needed.”
