Artist aims for the stars

DIEPSLOOT – After releasing his third successful single named Uthando, artist Slomotion has dreams of becoming his own producer.

A Diepsloot-based musician and songwriter is hoping to make his move in the music industry after releasing his third single, Uthando on 20 March.

Born in Ladysmith, Ndabenhle Masuku (29) found his passion in creating music when he was in primary school. Since then he adopted the stage name ‘Slomotion’ from a friend due to him ‘being slow’.

Since going professional with his music in 2014, he has since taken influences from South African music duo Mafikizolo and American rapper 2Chainz to establish his own sound as an afro-pop singer.

Masuku said reception of his music was going well. “I released my first single called Bambelela Sthandwa in February last year. In September, I then released my second single Inkumbulo and both did really well. There is another track I am working on to come out in November this year,” he told the Fourways Review.

With the global Covid-19 outbreak, a number of industries were affected in various ways, especially the entertainment industry. The virus had an impact on Masuku’s career as well. “I wanted to make a music video for Bambelela Sthandwa when it came out but I couldn’t because of Covid. Now we are able to plan again to film it since I’m not working anymore.”

Masuku said his future goals did not only apply to the music field but also the community. “I want to become a producer but I also want to start my own organisation to help youths in South Africa,” he concluded.
