SA Guide-Dogs assist with fundraising

PAULSHOF – The South African Guide-Dogs Association assisted in getting the word out of the King David Linksfield annual dog walk to raise funds for the Ray Levenberg Guide Dog Association.

After a week-long postponement due to the heavy rains, the King David Linksfield Virtual Dog Walk finally took place.

The walk is hosted every year to help raise funds for the Ray Levenberg Guide Dog Association, and this year the event had more entrants thanks to the assistance of the South African Guide-Dogs Association.

The KDL Virtual Dog Walk was organised by the school’s outreach committee and the sports and lifestyle committee.

The committee created a website, posters and contacted companies to raise funds for the walk.

Jade Copans, head of the outreach committee at the school said these walks have taken place at the Huddle Park Golf Course for the last four years, but due to Covid-19 regulations, they’ve now hosted their first virtual dog walk. “The day was a huge success even with the move to this week. People who couldn’t participate still had a chance to donate, even if they did not have a dog,” she said.

“The Guide-Dogs Association posted our notice on their Facebook page and website in order for more of their usual donors to participate. We received some many sign-ups from people who saw details of the walk on their page.”

The walk was not the only thing participants had to look forward to as there were also five raffle prizes to be won courtesy of donations from companies who the two school committees reached out to. “A number of companies we contacted provided generous donations which we were able to use for our raffle voucher prizes.”
