Douglasdale police warn public to avoid stolen goods

DOUGLASDALE – Two incidents at the end of January led to police urging the community not to buy any stolen goods.

The Douglasdale Police Station has advised the community not to buy any stolen goods after two incidents that took place on 22 and 23 January, respectively, in two different areas.

On the morning of 22 January, a courier van was transporting cell phones and was allegedly hijacked along Witkoppen Road by unknown armed suspects.

Station spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said, “A shoot-out ensued between the suspects and the security guards. Two security guards were injured and taken to hospital. “The courier van was later found abandoned along Epsom Road in Kya Sands with all its goods taken.”

The second incident took place the next day at 11pm, where eight unknown armed men allegedly broke into a warehouse in the Kya Sand Industrial area. “They allegedly stole about 15 plasma televisions and fled the scene,” Tshetlhane said.

No one has been arrested yet as police investigations are continuing. “The police are reminding members of the community that if we do not buy stolen goods, we can help stop crime.
