‘Holey’ problem persists in Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE – Patch jobs on potholes will not last when the rainy season comes.

Potholes on Crawford Drive in Douglasdale are still a major concern with the rainy season approaching.

Ward 106 councillor, Chris Santana said the issues of potholes on the road had been reported to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) in January this year.

“This is would be what I call a patch job. If you are patching it, you are not fixing it. The first rains come after the patching and the work is just undone,” he said pointing to a particularly big pothole.

“What is supposed to happen is more digging and then putting the tar back on top. The rains wash the patch job all away. That is coercing and polluting the environment because that tar lands up in the river. Temporary measures are great, but we need a plan to have them fixed.”

Communications spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Mosa Makhalima said she was still waiting for an update from the relevant depot on the matter.
