Kids to receive generous gifts from Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club

FOURWAYS – For 11 years, Rotary and ExPro have handed a little bit of joy to children in various homes and hospitals in the spirit of Christmas.

Many children will have a smile on their face from a new toy this Christmas time thanks to the work of a non-profit organisation and a Fourways-based rotary club.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, fundraising events in which toys and monetary funds are donated for the cause were affected and cancelled.

However, ExPro is calling on the community and their own sponsors to help.

ExPro, a non-profit organisation created to support former football players, has worked with the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club for the last 11 years in order to donate toys to children in a number of hospitals and shelters for children.

Stephen Margo, public relations officer of the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club said community members are also encouraged to get involved with the toy drive.

“What we are looking for this year is for the community to donate one new toy as well as Christmas wrapping paper. They can donate toys for girls and boys between the ages of one and 12,” he said.

Bernie Ribeiro, who works with ExPro Johannesburg, said the relationship between them and the Rotary Club is incredibly strong. “We have been working with them for the last few years as we’ve found there is a great level of trustworthiness. They also follow our principle of bringing in the rainbow nation and bringing children joy on Christmas Day,” said Ribeiro.

Margo said with the club’s fundraising events cancelled, they are still finding a way to get support for the donation of toys. “John Louch of ExPro Durban had contacted me to find out about what we are doing for fundraising since we had to cancel our events.

“He said to me that ExPro in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg are approaching the guys who supported us at the luncheons and asking them to donate funds with which we can by toys. He said we should have 1 000 toys to deliver to kids.”

Ribeiro said the toy distribution is expected to happen between 1 and 15 December, but this will be finalised soon.
