Concern for Norscot home as driveway still not fixed

NORSCOT – Since a big water burst in June, no follow-up has taken place at a residence who were left with a huge hole by their gate's driveway.

A hole dug by Johannesburg Water has yet to be fixed for a Norscot resident after a water burst that occurred on 23 June.

Stephen Jones, a resident in Columbus Crescent, said the first burst happened at a neighbour’s place two weeks before 23 June and water had flowed down to their house.

“Close to midnight on the 23rd, the burst happened under the bricks of the driveway and water flowed down to the house. Joburg Water came the next morning but they also damaged the storm water drainage system,” he claimed.

Jones told the Fourways Review that nobody could leave the house because the driveway had been dug up but Joburg Water came back a day later to half fill up the hole for them to use the driveway. Nothing had been done since.

Since the pipes were repaired by Johannesburg Water, Jones said the technicians said it was now up to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to repair the driveway.

Chris Santana, the councillor of Ward 106 expressed his frustration at Johannesburg Water’s lack of ability to follow up on the issue at hand.

He had been in contact with Jones since the pipe burst. “It’s disappointing that nothing has been done yet since this happened so long ago. It could be ageing infrastructure that is the problem,” he said.

Santana was alerted to the burst when it occurred in June and had been helping the Jones’ to have their driveway fixed.

Communications spokesperson for JRA, Mosa Makhalima said she was still waiting for an update from the relevant depot on the matter and will be notified of any changes.
