Diepsloot transformer explodes due to overloading by illegal connections
DIEPSLOOT – Eskom urges community to report illegal connections.
Eskom has reported that a transformer in Diepsloot Ext 19 exploded on 19 June due to overloading caused by illegal connections and meter bypasses.

The power utility said in a statement on 16 June that the illegal connections and other theft-related activities on infrastructure continues to be the leading cause for the sporadic a prolonged electricity interruption, which leave communities without power for days. “Eskom is not in a position to continuously repair damaged equipment caused by overloading and illegal connection.”
The statement added, “Eskom continues to monitor the network in real-time and would like to request our customers to desist from tampering with electricity infrastructure.
“We also urge you to help us manage the load by switching off appliances such as heaters, stoves and geysers and only use when necessary to stabilise the network at a local level.”
