Meet schoolmaster and Lipizzaner Favory Celia

Current rider Kyra Pickering attributes her ability as a rider to this faithful stallion.

This week, the South African Lipizzaners introduce schoolmaster Favory Celia.

Volunteer Gina Boxley said the 15-year-old stallion has taught many riders the magic and mysteries of classical dressage.

Nicknamed The Buggy or Ceeli-Bug, Boxley described this Lipizzaner as a top-class stallion.

“His party trick is his supreme grumpy quadrille face,” said Boxley.

“He is impeccably schooled and has helped so many young riders on their classical training journeys. We all owe something to this amazing horse,” added Boxley.

Current rider Kyra Pickering said the stallion has taught her so much.

“Favory Celia was my first-ever quadrille horse and boy, he didn’t make it easy at times. He will give you anything, but best you ask for it correctly,” said Pickering.

She attributes her ability as a rider to this faithful stallion. “He is such a gentle soul and so willing. Favory Celia is one of the South African Lipizzaners schoolmasters (especially the half passes), and has taught many students and guided them through their first quadrille. He does like to challenge them now and then by running away in their ridden exams, just to make sure they are awake.”

Pickering said that Celia does not believe in social distancing and loves his post-performance carrots and cuddles.

“Favory Celia will always have a huge part of my heart,” she added.
