55 construction workers arrested in Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE – Construction workers who were caught working in a building near Fourways have been arrested due to working during the nationwide lockdown.

On 3 April, Metro police arrested 55 construction workers at a construction site near Douglasdale.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidu confirmed that the workers have been charged, however, he could not confirm what

charges they would face. The owner of the construction company was not at the scene and the workers were taken to Douglasdale Police Station.

South Africa commenced the nationwide lockdown on 27 March in a bid to decrease the number of coronavirus infections, with essential services workers the only ones permitted to work.

The workers are currently going through the court process.
