Lonehill athletes go the distance

LONEHILL – Athletics club Fitness From Africa Coaching obtained fifth place during the Central Gauteng Athletics Championship.


Local athletics club, Fitness From Africa (FFA) Coaching, ended fifth on the medals table at the recent Central Gauteng Athletics Championships.

The event was held at the University of Johannesburg’s Auckland Park stadium, and this local team was not far behind athletics giants such as the University of Johannesburg and Murray and Roberts. It was the all-time best performance of this Lonehill-based club.

With more than 50 athletes of the club participating, they achieved a total of 18 medals which included seven gold medals. The club’s participation was bolstered by a number of development clubs including athletes from Diepsloot, Soweto and Vosloorus.

Top performances came from the following athletes:

  • Jada van Staden, gold in 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles girls’ U17
  •  Gené Coetzee, gold medal 5 000m girls’ U19
  •  Reinald Tshibumbu, gold medal long jump boys’ U15
  •  Alex Nyivana, gold medal 5km walk boys’ U17
  •  Puleng Motsoeneng, gold medal 5km walk girls’ U15
  •  Kieren Louw, gold medal boys’ U17.
