Police arrest suspected house robbers in Lonehill

LONEHILL – On 17 March police closed in on four suspected house robbers as they drove through the Lonehill area in a hijacked vehicle.


Four suspected house robbers are in police custody after being arrested in Lonehill on 17 March.

According to a statement by Captain Kay Makhubele, the Gauteng police spokesperson, police arrested the four suspects for their alleged involvement in an attempted house robbery that had previously occurred in Bryanston. Police received intelligence about a Mercedes vehicle that the suspects were driving towards the Lonehill area at about 3pm.

“The information was operationalised, police kept close observations [to locate the suspects] and the car was spotted on Aftonwold Road [in the Lonehill area],” Makhubele said.

“The suspects were stopped and searched. Four suspects were arrested for unlicensed firearms, eight rounds of ammunition and 10 magazines which were recovered during the search.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle that the suspects were travelling in had been hijacked in Garankuawa, Tshwane and officers also recovered clothes used by the suspects to cover their faces, gloves, caps and house-breaking implements at the scene.

“The Gauteng provincial management applauds the police officers who responded diligently to the information given and arrested the suspects.”

The four suspects will soon appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of attempted house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
