Man killed in Chartwell house robbery

CHARTWELL – A case of murder has been opened at Douglasdale Police following a house robbery that took place in a Chartwell residence.


A man, believed to be in his 60s, died after sustaining injuries during a house robbery in Chartwell on 26 February.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, in the early hours of 26 February, the man was taken to Life Fourways Hospital following a shooting that happened at his residence.

Meiring said that ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene alongside Life Healthcare where the man was found lying outside the door of his residence. “Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained two gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition.

“The man was treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to Life Fourways Hospital for stabilisation. Once stable, the man was transported to Helen Joseph Provincial Hospital for further care. Unfortunately, after some time, the man succumbed to his injuries.”

Meiring added, “The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

Douglasdale Police Station spokeperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane confirmed that a case of murder and house robbery is currently under investigation. “No one has been arrested yet as police investigation is continuing. We appeal to anyone with information that might assist to contact Douglasdale police,” Tshetlhane concluded.
