Life Fourways Hospital gives expecting mums helpful advice

FOURWAYS – New and experienced mothers attend the annual Pregnancy Expo in the quests of getting ready for a new addition in their families.


The annual Pregnancy Expo was held at Life Fourways Hospital on a warm morning of 26 February, with many different companies and nurses giving expecting parents a wealth of information.

Marketing manager for the hospital, Tanya Jenneker briskly walked around to check that all the exhibitors were able to find a place to set up just before parents walked in. Pregnancy Awareness Week is marked from 10 to 16 February and the hospital has events centered around this to educate parents-to-be.

Jenneker said the expo was aimed at bringing a wealth of knowledge of the world of pregnancy to expecting parents, and that pregnancy was something to be celebrated.”There are so many options that are available, so this is for the mums to come in and ask questions. We want to also try and bring the Fourways community closer together,” she said.

A number of exhibitors attended the expo that ranged from clothing stores, pregnancy photographers, products aiding in dental development, services in checking a newborn’s hearing and many more.

The reception floor was buzzing with expectant mothers who came alone or with their mothers and friends. Some dads-to-be also came to collect flyers at the expo.

Mother-to-be Luntar Sekhitla walked into the expo and was immediately intrigued by all the options available for her firstborn. “I’m learning a lot of things while I’m here, things I didn’t know or think about. It’s been such a great day,” she said.

Among the exhibitors was 21-year-old Kwaw Kabaah, a photographer who captures the moments during childbirth.

With this being his first expo since starting his business this year, he remained humble as he expressed excitement at being invited to the expo. “Being here means I get to showcase and expand my art and what I do. Photographing deliveries took some getting used to but now I see the beauty in it,” said Kabaah.

Throughout the expo, attendees wrote entered various lucky draws for a chance to win hampers from the different stalls. Zanele Ngwenya was a winner of a free photo shoot with Kabaah.

“I’m so happy since I’ll be able to do this photo shoot with my second born. I missed the opportunity with my first child,” she said.

There were a number of attendees who felt that their pregnancy journey was made a little easier after going to the expo.
