Delicious challenge for Fourways High

FOURWAYS – Winning vegetarian pizza stands to be a hit with Mimmos patrons for a school's pizza competition.

Fourways High School’s volleyball girls hope to serve their competitors with their vegetarian pizza in the upcoming school’s pizza challenge at Mimmos in Douglasdale.

On 22 January, the girls were taught how to make pizza, and then the planning for a pizza commenced. The volleyball girls were split into three teams to make pizza in the categories consisting of meat, chicken and vegetarian.

Five schools are participating in what has been dubbed the new School’s Pizza Challenge. A school’s pizza menu is created consisting of pizzas made by the schools participating.

The school which has the most pizza sold within a two-month time frame will win a R10 000 cash prize for their school.

Alongside Fourways High, the schools invited to participate are Bryanston High, Cooper College, Bryandale Primary and Kings School Bryanston.

Owner of the Mimmos Douglasdale franchise, Quintin Vosloo, said the idea in starting a competition like this was to bring the community together. “I’ve personally always wanted to get involved with the community here in Douglasdale and have them involved here.

“The schools came on different days for the workshops, and then made pizzas which they were judged on.”

The two meat teams’ pizzas came up short when being judged, but the vegetarian team’s pizza came out on top and was undoubtedly the winning pizza of the group. It is now on the school’s pizza menu to be tried by locals in the area.

Jodi Selesnick and manager Vosloo commended the learners’ attitude throughout the day. Selesnick said they showed a ‘good spirit throughout the day’ and Vosloo said the girls are ‘a bunch of go-getters’.

The School’s Pizza Challenge is set to start during February.”In terms of the pizza’s progress, every week we want to post an update on Facebook to see who’s close to winning,” Vosloo concluded.
