Over 100 arrested in single weekend in Joburg West police district

DOUGLASDALE – A total of 143 suspects have been arrested by police recently, including four who were arrested in Diepsloot and three who were arrested in Douglasdale.


Between 10 and 12 January the police from different parts of the Joburg West policing district (which includes Douglasdale, Diepsloot, Florida, Roodepoort, Linden, Honeydew and Randburg) arrested 143 suspects during operations that were conducted throughout the area.

The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from attempted murder, house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, dealing in liquor without a licence, possession of drugs, driving while under the influence of liquor, illegal immigration, theft and shoplifting. Among the arrested suspects, four were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. A 27-year-old man was arrested in Diepsloot during Operation Okae Malao for possession of an unlicensed police Z88 firearm with its serial numbers filed off.

Another three suspects were arrested in Douglasdale after a shoot-out ensued between the police and the suspects next to the Kya Sand informal settlement. The suspects were aged 30, 41 and 35 respectively and were arrested for attempted murder, being in possession of four unlicensed firearms and 35 rounds of ammunition.

The arrested suspects will soon appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
