New start for Pinnacle College Waterfall as Grade 1s find their feet

WATERFALL – The small Grade 1 class was not the only new thing in the neighbourhood, as the school of Pinnacle College Waterfall also made its debut.

It was a day full of excitement for Grade 1 learners who started school at Pinnacle College Waterfall on 14 January.

Some learners had their parents by their side, but left shortly after. The learners, foundation and intermediate, are not the only ones new to the area of Waterfall. The building that is now a learning environment was built up in 2019, with slight construction still taking place. Everything in the school, even the staff members, are brand new.

With the intermediate phase, consisting of the grades 4 through 8, principal of the new school, Keith Armstrong guided parents and learners to the newly built hall situated across the entrance to the foundation phase classrooms.

Around eight children already sat on the carpet, and played with the brand-new building blocks and puzzles in small groups.

Grade 1 teacher Sherissa Pillay recalled, “We expected tears at first, with it being their [Grade 1s] first day, but all they wanted to do was talk and make friends with their new classmates! Not a single tear.

“Parents came in with their children, and some learners did not even want to have their parents walk in with them,” Pillay laughed as a learner was too shy to say goodbye to her father by the door of the classroom.

The Grade 1 class currently has 16 learners. One of the leaners expressed his excitement in starting primary school.

“I want to become a doctor when I get older because I like helping people. If you are kind to other people, they will be kind to you,” said the little one who seemed wise beyond his years.

The school atmosphere is still filled with excitement and hope.
