The Daily Bread organisation needs your help

DOUGLASDALE – The Daily Bread Organisation helps vulnerable people who live around the Douglasdale area. Here are some ways you can help support them in the new year.

The Daily Bread organisation needs your help to feed hungry children and is looking for support in 2020.

It was founded in the Douglasdale area in 2008 when an abused child was left in the care of founder Charmaine McGinley by Douglasdale police.

The incident opened her eyes to the huge need for help from vulnerable people, particularly children, and as such McGinley set up the organisation to provide help to those in need in nearby communities by providing several services to orphaned and vulnerable children, including psycho-social support, outreach and feeding schemes.

“We are grateful to all who support us in our endeavours to make the world a better place,” said McGinley, explaining that they always need food for the children to eat. “Non-perishable foodstuff is always top of our wish list.”

You can also help support the Daily Bread in the new year by sponsoring or supporting event organisations aimed to help raise funds.

McGinley mentioned three events that members of the public are invited to get involved with:

• The Daily Bread Community Business Awards: Planned for January, this event’s objective is to reward small businesses who contribute to community development which will hopefully encourage other small businesses to make contributions too. This is the second year these awards are being held and the aim is to grow the awards to include more communities, beyond Fourways and its surrounding areas. You can sponsor the event in exchange for naming rights.

• Daily Bread Singing Under African Skies: Although a date has not yet been set for this one, this event gives vulnerable children with talent the opportunity to gain skills in aid of skills development and has been running for eight years so far.

• Daily Bread Singing Miss Beauty Pageant 2020.
