Unhappy cricket lovers to meet at Wanderers

ILLOVO – Cricket South Africa board members to meet cricket fans at the Wanderers during a public meeting.

Cricket fans, sponsors and stakeholders will have a chance to meet two Cricket South Africa board members at a public meeting at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium in light of issues that have put the governing body in a poor light.

The meeting starts at 7pm for 7.30pm on 5 December at the Wanderers Long Room and the attendance of board members Jack Madiseng (president of Central Gauteng Lions) and Jono Leaf-Wright (Central Gauteng Lions CEO) has been confirmed.

This follows the resignation of CSA board members Iqbal Khan and Shirley Zinn in the week leading up to the meeting, and time will tell if these two will follow, especially as there is not as much pressure on board members to resign as there is on CSA CEO Thabang Moroe and president Chris Nenzani.

CSA’s public (and global) perception took a turn for the worse when it withdrew the media accreditation of five prominent journalists who reported on problems at the governing body.

CSA have since re-approved the media accreditation of these journalists. Moroe apologised for the debacle.

Issues at CSA were first brought to public attention when interim director of cricket Corrie van Zyl, commercial manager Clive Eksteen and COO Naasei Appiah were immediately suspended, this believed to be in connection with a payment dispute with players in last year’s Mzansi Super League.

More updates to follow.
