20 arrested by Douglasdale police

DOUGLASDALE – Douglasdale police arrested 20 suspects for multiple crimes in the run-up to the festive season.


Twenty suspects are off the streets thanks to crime operations by Douglasdale police officers.

The officers arrested the suspects in the Douglasdale area from 15 to 17 November for crimes ranging from contravention of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, common assault, being in possession of suspected stolen property, dealing in liquor without licence, dealing in marijuana, theft and shoplifting. During the operations, four shebeens (or illegal taverns) were shut down and volumes of liquor was confiscated.

Among the arrested suspects, a 33-year-old man was arrested for contravention of the Firearms Control Act. The arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

These arrests are meant to serve as a warning to criminals that the police will ensure that the community of Douglasdale is and feels safe over this festive season.

The police also appeal to members of the community to keep on reporting all criminal activities in their area. Besides calling the station, members of the public can alternatively use the newly launched MySAPS app to provide tip-offs anonymously and/or to find their nearest police station.
