Top tennis players at the Bridge

BEVERLEY – In order to encourage their children to play more sport, this term The Bridge Assisted Learning School introduced tennis games to its children.

There is a lot that tennis can teach you, just ask the youngsters of The Bridge School in Beverley.

The boys and girls of the school had a fantastic term of playing tennis after the school decided to have an internal round-robin competition. As an Assisted Learning School, The Bridge believes in the importance of sport and participation in sporting events by the learners. Girls and boys of the school competed against one another in the afternoons throughout term 4.

A gruelling four-week tournament allowed the children to compete against one another and have fun at the same time. Points were awarded to the winners of each match and tallied at the end to determine the final winners for the term. During the term, a junior section of boys and girls mixed and a separate senior girls’ and boys’ section were organised.

Tyler Ludick in Grade 3, Zuhrah Kester (Grade 6) and Joshua Lubbe (Grade 5) played beautiful tennis and were crowned the overall winners of the tournament as the term drew to a close. The learners enjoyed the competition and have said they would like to carry on with the idea in future.

Sport helps children in character building as well as to maintain energy and strength levels. This improves their blood circulation and keeps them physically fit. It helps to develop a sense of friendliness, team spirit and confidence among children.
