Online shopping can equal savings

JOBURG – Forget the long queues, petrol costs and parking fees, online shopping is here to stay which can mean savings.

Black Friday is near, special frenzies, annual sales, cyber Monday, shopping sprees in many parts of the world have swept South Africa as well in the past few years. Meaning some of us are going to do some serious shopping.

It is a time when consumers are looking to maximise their budget when shopping for big-ticket items.

Aimee Miller, marketing and sales manager of online retailer Teljoys said if you are looking to purchase appliances, electronics, furniture and other good deals too hard to pass up, it is key to know that shopping online can actually save you a lot of money.

Pros of shopping online during sale season:

  • Time is money: Forget waiting and standing in long queues in packed shopping malls, shopping online affords you the convenience that you can’t find offline. You are not restricted to opening hours or location, most online stores are open 24 hours a day, from just about any country in the world so you can place your order
  • The little things add up: Online shopping can save you costs on petrol, parking fees, banking charges for multiple swipes on your debit or credit cards, impulse purchases and eating out
  • Make informed decisions: Online retailers do have competitive discounts, special offers, free delivery, bundle offers and can all add up to significant savings. At times they offer a wider range of products and brands to choose from than the physical store. When shopping for electronics you have immediate access to the product specifics and can easily find an exact match of what you’re looking for. Customer service and product reviews are also important to have a look at before you purchase.
  • Avoid the debt trap: The specials are tempting during the festive season,  it is easy to spend more than what you budgeted for. Avoid taking out loans and credit for items you can not afford, the financial burden will last you beyond the festive period.
