Update: R340 000 allegedly stolen in Diepsloot business robbery

DIEPSLOOT – Police are investigating a case of business robbery and attempted murder after the shooting of an on-duty security guard.

Update, 5 November, 4.40pm

Diespsloot Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula has given more details regarding a shooting earlier today which left one security guard injured.

“A 32-year-old male was shot in the stomach by an unknown male suspect while performing guard duties at a business premise in Ext 10 Diepsloot,” he said.

Mathebula explained that the guard said he was on duty in the guard room when he heard a loud bang on the window, followed by a gunshot which hit him in the stomach and he collapsed.

“He further alleges that the about seven suspects, two armed with firearms, entered the room, tied him up and took him to another room where there were laptops and other electronic equipment.”

The suspects have been alleged to have stolen an estimated R340 000 worth of electronics.

A case of business robbery and attempted murder is being investigated. Mathebula has appealed to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Diepsloot Police Station on 011 367 6300 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.

In the early hours of this morning (5 November), Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting at a shopping centre in Diepsloot West.

Spokesperson for Netcare 911 Shawn Herbst said a 32-year-old male security guard had been shot in what members of the public allege to be a robbery.

“Medics assessed the scene and found the patient in a critical condition with two gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen and pelvic region.”

The patient was treated on the scene. Paramedics managed to stabilise him but due to the nature of his injuries, he was airlifted by a specialised helicopter ambulance to a specialist facility for the treatment he required.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the matter further. The story will be updated once more information is made available.
