SANDTON – Sandton Police member Captain Granville Meyer honored with the admin employee of the year award at the Johannesburg District Annual Excellence Awards.

Corporate communication officer at Sandton Police Station Captain Granville Meyer was awarded the Admin Employee of the Year Level 8–12 at the SAPS Johannesburg District Annual Excellence Awards on 27 September.

Meyer was awarded for his Captain Khumalo project which was initiated in January 2016 in Cape Town due to the high rate of child abuse in the country.

The project is an educational programme for children aged 3 to 12. It primarily delivers crime prevention and child safety messages to these children. The programme has a very strong community focus and endeavours to bridge the gap between the community and the police.

Meyer worked tirelessly to educate and inform learners and communities. He went the extra mile to carry out the programme – even on his rest days, without receiving remuneration.

The programme has increased the level of trust communities have in the police service and contributed towards the enhancement of the image of the SAPS.

Captain Meyer visited 12 primary schools and one educare centre across Gauteng, where he covered 140 classes with 4 119 learners attending the programme.

Not one child went missing at the schools where he presented the stranger and dangers programmes.

“It feels great for the project we started in 2016. Our first achievement after being in Gauteng for just over a year. We hope we can reach out to more schools, crèches, and churches,” Meyer said.
