Full tummies for Midrand SPCA animals

DAINFERN – The dogs and cats of the Midrand SPCA have a good dinner to look forward to thanks to donations from the Kid Vantage Academy in Dainfern Golf Estate.

The youngsters at Kid Vantage Academy have made a special donation to the Midrand SPCA after the non-profit organisation was recently robbed.

The school, which is located inside the Dainfern Golf Estate and cares for children aged four months up to five years old, had spent more than a month asking parents and children collecting donations to give to animals in need. On 4 September, Theo Mokgatle, an inspector of the Midrand SPCA, came through to the school to collect the donated items.

“We decided to collect for the SPCA after hearing about how they had been robbed,” said Bianca Parsons, the principal of Kid Vantage Academy, referring to the incident which occurred on 11 July when three armed suspects beat up the caretaker and robbed the organisation. “Our parents really came through and showed their support.”

Since August the school has managed to collect 17 bags of dog and cat food, seven tins of dog food, five packets of wet cat food and a heap of blankets. The Midrand SPCA currently cares for about 80 dogs and 40 cats, and has been targeted by criminals more than once.

“We are so thankful to get this,” Mokgatle said on behalf of the animal welfare organisation. “Every little bit helps.”

He encouraged members of the public to continue to support the organisation as it cared for animals in need.

“Security has always been a problem, so we’re looking for funds to help build a wall and improve other security features. You can also help by adopting from the SPCA, and we’re also looking for help with our vehicles – we spend about R10 000 just on travelling where we need to go, and need reliable vehicles to do our work.”
