Diepsloot police to clamp down on gangsterism

DIEPSLOOT – Diepsloot Police Station commander engages Ext 3 and 11 residents on ways to minimise crime in the area.

Diepsloot Police Station Commander Colonel David Seabi held a meeting on 17 August with Sector 1 residents to discuss plans of clamping down on criminal activities in Ext 3 and 11.

Members of the community came in their numbers to attend the meeting. Also in attendance was Vispol Commander Colonel Matome Mohale and sector manager Captain Isaya Mothobeki.

Residents were given a platform to voice their concerns about crime in the area including the proliferation of gangsterism.

Seabi urged the community to revive street committees and block watches and conduct patrols at night. He also promised that police would intensify patrols at identified hotspots in the evening. Seabi further assured the residents that the Social Crime Prevention unit was hard at work with various initiatives to curb gangsterism.

He pleaded with the community to partner with police in the fight against crime by reporting all criminal activities.

Corporate and communications officer at Diepsloot Police Station Captain Tinyiko Mathebula outlined the importance of the meeting. “These kind of engagements with the community play an important role in the fight against crime and also help to strengthen our relationship with our communities,” he said.
