Reddam House Helderfontein remains unbeaten

REDDAM – Reddam House Helderfontein has booked their spot in the Discovery High Schools Knockout Cup, with a game to go, thanks to their unbeaten run thus far.

Reddam House Helderfontein soccer team continued their outstanding run in the Discovery High Schools Knockout Cup.

The Helderfontein boys have won three matches and drew one, with the final group stage match to be played on 21 August.

Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge was the first side to taste defeat at the hands of Helderfontein with the game ending 1–0.

Up next for Reddam House Helderfontein was rivals Reddam House Waterfall with Helderfontein crushing their Waterfall peers 3–1. Yeshiva College gave the Helderfontein team a run for their money after playing to an entertaining 3–3 draw.

The fourth fixture saw Helderfontein welcome Reddam House Bedfordview in another exciting Reddam derby played at St Georges Park. Helderfontein’s Daniel Hermtz scored a cracker of a goal from outside the penalty box before completing his brace with a penalty. Silo Mayekiso was also on the scoresheet as Helderfontein cruised past Bedfordview in a 3–1 thriller.

Helderfontein will go into their final group C match against Waterstone College, with a 10-point cushion which guarantees them a place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Helderfontein head coach Tanaka Manjengwa said he would rotate his squad to rest his players ahead of the knockout stages. “We might rest our some of our players in the game against Waterstone College, our captain Rhulani Mathe might not feature for this one,” he revealed.

Manjengwa also shared his thoughts his team’s progress so far, “We’ve found a way we want to play and a way we believe in. We have just got to go out into the knockout stages and do the same. We took risks but we are here. We have got to go for it, whatever it takes, it’s a risk and being undefeated up until now has been the reward.”

With his squad made up of younger age group players since Reddam House Helderfontein goes up to Grade 1, Manjengwa said, “We’re still a work in progress. With some injured players coming back like Craig Goredema and Pranav Inderjeeth, we have to get them back in time and ensure they will be match fit to start the next round of games.”
