Shop and support guide dogs

The popular monthly Vintage Market at Cedar Square is now found on the Pick n Pay side of the centre, giving local residents the opportunity to browse antiques, collectibles and decorative art pieces, between 9am and 3pm on the last Saturday of each month while also supporting the South African Guide-Dogs Association.

Launched in March, the market already has a devoted following, with visitors valuing the expertise of its experienced and knowledgeable dealers.

Many dealers welcome the opportunity to give free appraisals of antique items owned by members of the public, as untold treasures may lie buried among curios, knick-knacks, and forgotten artworks.

“I chose Cedar Square as the home for this special market because of its lifestyle appeal to shoppers along with its convenient location and free parking,” explained market founder, John Keddle, who is a respected dealer of antiques and collectibles in his own right.

“We’re excited at the market’s potential to grow, and we’re on the lookout for more diverse dealers so that we can grow our appeal,” he said. “Expert dealers in steampunk, comic books or vintage toys would be welcome too, for example.”

Created as a community-based project, the Vintage Market donates all profits from organising the event to the South African Guide-Dogs Association, which also hosts the regular White Elephant table – a miscellaneous collection of previously-loved goodies looking for their next home.

There is no cost to visit the monthly Vintage Market, which operates at the same time as the Cedar Square Slow Market, home to a wide range of artisan goods.

Visit the Vintage Market outside Woolworths at Cedar Square on the last Saturday of the month from 9am to 3pm. Vendors accept cards or cash, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own, reusable shopping bags.
